A photograph is a moment frozen in time. It deserves a frame that shifts with it - one that shimmers as the light changes, so the memory never looks quite the same twice.

Each piece is hand-cut and individually set by artisans in Sambhal. Made with genuine Mother of Pearl, it has long been associated with prosperity and seen as a symbol of selfless love.

  • Available in 4 x 6, 5 x 7 and 8 x 10 inch photo sizes
  • Genuine Mother of Pearl inlay
  • Floral pattern inspired by traditional Seengh Ka Kaam craft (hornwork)

Meaningful Decor. Timeless Design.

Similar to the traditional ‘Seengh Ka Kaam’ (horn work) craft which repurposes discarded bones and horns from meat farms, this timeless design is produced using the inner glistening shell of Mother of Pearl and features a minimalist floral pattern.

Mother of Pearl is commonly believed to attract prosperity and is a symbol of selfless love, while floral designs feature heavily across Indian crafts and are an important part of Hinduism. The act of praying is called puja, which literally means “the flower act”, with flowers traditionally offered to the gods in return for good health, wealth and prosperity.

The combination of both traditions makes it the perfect gift for your friends and family.

Handcrafted & Supports Craftsmanship

Drawing, cutting and piecing the design together requires great precision and patience – qualities that Mohammed and his team of artisans from Sambhal in India have perfected. The city is famous for this artistry which is under threat of being lost due to the lack of appreciation for the skill.

For Mohammed and his team, sharing their work with the rest of the world is what they find most rewarding.

“We are the 3rd generation of seengh ka kaam (horn work) craftsmen and we are proud to have shared our work with people around the globe” - Mohammed, maker.

Genuine Mother of Pearl

This photo frame is carefully pieced together using individual, hand-cut shapes of Mother of Pearl (the inside surface of a shell which goes on to become a pearl), sustainable MDF and varnished with a plant-based resin for a slick and glossy finish.

Durable & Easy to Clean

• Wipe with a soft, barely damp cloth and dry immediately.
• Keep out of direct sunlight - prolonged UV exposure dulls the shell's natural iridescence.
• Never use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
• To fit your photo, swing aside the back panel clips, slide your picture in and refit the back.
• A small drop of mineral oil on a soft cloth can restore shine to the shell and resin surface.

FAQs

Does the frame come with glass or perspex?
The frame includes high-quality, clear glass to protect your photograph from dust and fading.
What is mother of pearl?
Mother of pearl is the iridescent inner lining of certain mollusc shells. Each piece is individually harvested, cut and laid by hand, which is why no two frames are ever quite the same. The shimmer shifts from silver to ivory to pale gold depending on how the light hits it.
I'm not South Asian - is it okay to buy or gift these pieces?

Honestly, yes - whether that's for yourself or someone you care about.

Every item at ALORAA comes with a real story: who made it, where, using skills passed down through generations. When you bring one of these into your home or give one to someone you love, you're not just acquiring an object. You're sharing that story. That's not appropriation - it's how craft traditions survive.

The distinction that matters isn't your background. It's whether you're engaging with the culture or just borrowing the aesthetic without the story. Knowing the provenance, buying from a brand built to support the makers, choosing something with meaning attached - that's appreciation.

Are your materials sustainably sourced?

Wherever possible, yes. We prioritise materials that are responsibly harvested, recycled, or upcycled. Each product page shares details about what's used in that piece.

Why ALORAA?

Because beautiful things shouldn't come at someone else's expense. Every piece should carry respect—for the maker, the materials, and for you.

We pay fair wages without compromise and share the real stories behind our craft. That's how we create decor worth owning—and keeping.

Do you offer gift notes and wrapping?

We offer beautiful gift wrapping for just £4 and complimentary handwritten notes to make your gift even more special.

Just choose the gift option at checkout or drop us an email.

Do you offer trade or wholesale pricing?

Absolutely. We love working with interior designers, stylists and businesses. Email us at hello@aloraa.co.uk to chat about trade partnerships or bulk orders.
