The best kitchen objects do two jobs beautifully. This one chops and serves - and looks good enough to stay on the table rather than disappear into a drawer.

The mandala hand-carved into its surface represents wholeness and the interconnected nature of life. A symbol of balance and continuity, it brings a quiet sense of grounding to everyday use. Each board carries cultural meaning while making the kitchen feel more intentional.

  • Approx. 14 x 8 inches (35 x 20 cm)
  • Solid mango wood with hand carved mandala motif
  • Suitable for chopping, serving and displaying

Art Meets Action

Sturdy yet light enough to whisk around the kitchen to pop freshly cut ingredients into a pan when cooking up dinner for loved ones. And with its striking, hand-carved design, gorgeous enough to function as a conversation-sparking platter when entertaining.

The mandala design is popular across Indian art, representing the universe; its circular nature symbolises the eternal circle of life and the idea that everything is connected.

Handcrafted & Supports Craftsmanship

Exquisitely hand-carved from mango wood by Mohammed from Saharanpur, India, which is known for its incredible woodwork. Here, origins of the craft can be traced back to the late 19th century.

The craftsmanship requires a selection of simple tools, hours of manual labour and precision.

Durable. Sustainable. Water Resistant.

Although the mango tree is best known for its delicious fruit, its wood has been used in India for over 4,000 years to construct palaces, temples and mosques thanks to its durability, water-repellent properties, beauty and strength.

Not only is mango wood sustainable, it generates extra income for farmers once the trees have stopped bearing fruit and provides an affordable and easy to work with the material for artisans.

Durable & Easy to Clean

Wash immediately after use. Wash with mild detergent using soft cloth or sponge. Do not serve hot food items. Do not scrub. Not recommended for dishwasher or microwave.

FAQs

Can I actually chop on the carved mandala side?
We recommend using the smooth, uncarved back side for heavy chopping and using the carved mandala side for serving and display to protect the beautiful woodwork.
Will garlic or onion smells linger on the wood?
Mango wood is quite dense, but to remove strong odours, simply rub the board with half a lemon and some coarse salt, then rinse.
I'm not South Asian - is it okay to buy or gift these pieces?

Honestly, yes - whether that's for yourself or someone you care about.

Every item at ALORAA comes with a real story: who made it, where, using skills passed down through generations. When you bring one of these into your home or give one to someone you love, you're not just acquiring an object. You're sharing that story. That's not appropriation - it's how craft traditions survive.

The distinction that matters isn't your background. It's whether you're engaging with the culture or just borrowing the aesthetic without the story. Knowing the provenance, buying from a brand built to support the makers, choosing something with meaning attached - that's appreciation.

Are your materials sustainably sourced?

Wherever possible, yes. We prioritise materials that are responsibly harvested, recycled, or upcycled. Each product page shares details about what's used in that piece.

Why ALORAA?

Because beautiful things shouldn't come at someone else's expense. Every piece should carry respect - for the maker, the materials, and for you.

We pay fair wages without compromise and share the real stories behind our craft. That's how we create decor worth owning - and keeping.

Do you offer gift notes and wrapping?

We offer beautiful gift wrapping for just £4 and complimentary handwritten notes to make your gift even more special.

Just choose the gift option at checkout or drop us an email.

Do you offer trade or wholesale pricing?

Absolutely. We love working with interior designers, stylists and businesses. Email us at hello@aloraa.co.uk to chat about trade partnerships or bulk orders.
